Customer Reviews:
Beautiful music!
I put this music on when I’m doing the dishes or relaxing at night. It’s so soothing and easy to meditate to.
Exceptionally Lovely Performance.
As much as I enjoy the choral music of the 16th and 17th centuries, I usually listen to it in short doses, taken far apart.
This disk by Stile Antico is different, however. When it first arrived, I played it through twice, and I have listened to it frequently since then. Everything about the performance seems right to me: the group’s diction is excellent, balance is near perfect, the acoustics of the hall have just the right amount of reverberation, and most important, there is a compelling warmth and sincerity. This group will give the Tallis Scholars a real run for their money.
This music lives up to expectations.
Having read the superlative reviews of this CD and, in particular, the unanimous praise for this group of singers, Stile Antico, I was afraid that my expectations would be too great. Instead, I was entirely pleased. The choice of selections and the quality of the production are praiseworthy. Most of all, for me, it is such a pleasure to ‘discover’ a new group of singers specializing in this genre. They are superb and worthy of all the praise they’re getting. No doubt, they will become very much a part of the early music/sacred music scene and their future CDs will be very much anticipated. This CD can be recommended with no reservations.
